POSDCORB :Principle of management by Henri Fayol
POSDCORB means “plan, organize, staff, direct, coordinate, report and budget”. It is the similar concept of “ 5 process of management: plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and control”. I gave them footnotes below.
Plan: including analysis of current conditions andprediction of future
Organize: including resource allocation and cross department communication
Staff: to put right person in the right position for right task
Direct: lead a team in the right direction and direct persons to accomplish their duties
Coordinate: based on priority to arrange the schedule and resources toward the goal
Report: to control the process and performance by right report
Budget: to control the expense under the cost benefit analysis
“Seven habits of highly effective people” by Stephen Covey
It is the seven habits Stephen Covey asked us to cultivatein 1989. I put his title in the beginning and I use my footnotes later.
<<personal success by three habits>>
“ Be proactive”: Take responsibility before reaction. Accept the reality and smile to any challenge.
“Begin with the end in mind”: Think the final picture before moving forward. As long as we have a clear final vision, we may have more probability to reach it.
“Put first things first”: Set priority and focus on the most important and urgent thing. Take care of the urgent but less important thing, that may consume your time but dilute your focus.
<<group success by three habits>>
“Think win-win”: how to avoid competitors’ “scarcity mentality” from cooperation. Only when we bring the benefit to the opponents and then they will change their opposite attitude.
“Seek first to understand, then to be understood”: to listen with passion is the first step to win the other person’s heart. Only after we understand others and then we may own their trust to understand us.
“synergies”: to find out the inter-dependent relationship. Only when we have common interest with each other, we may co-work close and sincerely. Build up the inter-trust by sharing the vision each other.
<<Sharpen the saw>>
The seventh habit is to return to the basics. When we move further, we should always retrospect the original purpose that drives us here. We should review our health, feeling, spiritual and thinking status and then re-flash them.
I know Covey has given the eighth habit recently. I will amend it later!
