IOT features: low entry barrier (hobby or business, intense competition), long trail effect (fragmented, no single hero product), lack of viable business (test bed needed, keep searching).
It is the hottest topic is to use Amazon Echo as the IOT gateway or to use Amazon Alexa to play the platform.
The gap for IOT is to jump from design to mass production.
For kickstarter hardware related projects, 55% of them need more than US$ 1 million fund.
MoEA highlights three key projects to test bed in Taiwan.
Smart City initiatives. (mobile operators to lead.)
TRIPLE ( Taiwan rapid innovation and leaping)
Asian Silicon Valley Development Plan has the budget of NT$ 11.3 billion for 2017), and its period is from 2016 to 2023. Its framework includes one ecosystem, two core elements (IoT, entrepreneurship), three links(world, local and future), four strategies.

Practices of MoEA
Community development: corporate partners, maker/start-ups, developer, designers.
Mobile heroes: It is from 2002, it attracts more than 2000 teams and 40000 people to join the contest.
TiC 100 startups A+: 2 month long directional incubation programs. Coaching, workshop, private board of directors. Team sourcing and team matching. It links to global community, like hatapro, BBA, Softbank.

Example:
Alchema: intelligent cider brewing device. It launched crowdfunding at kickstarter in 2016 and it successfully was funded around NTD 10 million in 2016.
ChaseWind: it designed a cyclist glasses. It announced to coop with qualcomm in 2016.
Skusentry: it provides UAV(無人飛機) security surveillance cloud computing platform.
Kitchbot: It provides easy sous-vide, smart temperature control device. It is a winner in Acer STAR contest. It got fund from zeczec crowdfunding projects.

Why Taiwan is a good place for IoT startups?
He said three points: Policy friendly, good track record, comprehensive industrial environment.
